Children at FUMC

We at First United Methodist Church believe that children bless our congregation, city and world. Our staff and volunteers are dedicated to helping your children develop and strengthen their relationship with God, and to develop the building blocks of a life-long faith.

SUNDAY MORNING FOR KIDS

9:00am SUNDAY SCHOOL (Grades K-2)
We start in the Sanctuary, then move upstairs to Kingdom City after the children’s moment. Our lessons include games, time for prayer, scripture lessons, and activities to take home for families to help integrate the lessons into their daily life.

9:00am & 11:00am WORSHIP (Grades 3-5)
Children in grades 3-5 stay in worship for the whole service. We believe worship is a core element of spiritual development for children and adults. When we exclude children from worship, we fail to help them build the skills they need to become adults who are familiar with and find worship meaningful. Additional spiritual formation for grades 3-5 will be in retreats, events, choir, family resources, and church involvement.

10:00am MUSIC (Grades K-5)
9:00 am kids can stay in Kingdom City; other kids can dropped off in Kingdom City. The children’s music program is done in partnership with our Music  & Arts Ministry. We believe music is an integral part of children’s spiritual and theological growth and we nurture this through weekly music and choir.

NURSERY CARE (Birth-Age 5)
Nursery care is available on Sunday mornings during all services We also offer nursery care during special events at the church for those who attend. Kids are loved, read to, given room to play, and learn about God’s love for them.

We look forward to your children joining us!

Continue to connect with us and each other through our Instagram and Facebook page.

Baptisms at FUMC

"Through the Sacrament of Baptism we are initiated into Christ's holy church, are incorporated into God's mighty acts of salvation and given new birth through water and the Spirit. All this is God's gift, offered to us without price." (United Methodist Hymnal)

In the United Methodist Church, Baptism of infants includes the reaffirmation of the vows of the Baptismal Covenant by parents, sponsors, and the congregation; but chiefly it celebrates what God is doing and will do in the life of the infant. Through Baptism, God claims those being baptized, whatever their age or ability to profess their faith, with divine grace. We acknowledge baptisms from all other faith traditions and believe that while infants are welcome to be baptized, we respect a parent's right to determine the age at which their child will be baptized.

If you are interested in having your child baptized, or have further questions, please contact:
Rev. Amy Strader, 719.471.8522 x101 or amys@fumc-cs.org.

FUMC Children's Ministry Mission Statement

We at First United Methodist Church believe that children bless our congregation, city and world. Our staff and volunteers are dedicated to helping your children develop and strengthen their relationship with God, and to develop the building blocks of a life-long faith.

We believe in SURROUNDING KIDS with an inclusive, interactive environment that is Sacred & Holy, Physically Safe, and Spiritually and Emotionally Respectful.

We believe in CREATING SPACES where kids are free to explore scripture and tradition through prayer, worship, reflection, mission, art, movement, music and more.

We believe in EMPOWERING CHILDREN to use their own reason, spirituality and discernment to integrate scripture, tradition, and experience into their daily lives.

We believe in EQUIPPING FAMILIES to develop their own faith and faith practices at home, and empowering parents and guardians to lead by example.

We believe in the OPEN AND GIVING HEARTS OF CHILDREN, and creating opportunities to be a blessing to others; in our congregation, city or world.

We believe ALL CHILDREN ARE PRECIOUS, and seek to create a physical space that is accessible for all ages and needs.

All our Children’s Ministry volunteers go through background checks and trainings, and our paid Children’s staff are First Aid, CPR and AED certified.
