Wednesday Nights at FUMC

Contemplative Worship
4/27-5/25 | 5:40-6:25pm | Prayer Room | todds@fumc-cs.org

Each Wednesday evening during Faith Academy, come for a quiet time of prayer, song and spiritual practices led by Dr. Todd Spencer, our Minister of Spiritual Formation. Whether you are taking a Faith Academy class or not, you are welcome!

Faith Academy Classes

In Our Public Schools, Our God is Too Small
4/27-5/25 | 6:30-7:30pm | Room 234, South Wing | saylerteo@yahoo.com

This class, led by James Sayler, will be based on the analysis of Alexis de Tocqueville that "America is great because America is good," meaning that in America more than anywhere else in the world, local adults can find their strength in the church, then discuss with each other ways to make our local institutions work well. We should also be able to apply this method to make our public schools work well, effectively making our God large in our public schools. Contact James Sayler for more information by email, or call (719)391-1115

Bible Study with the Pastor
4/27-5/25 | 6:30pm | Rev. Kent Ingram | Video on Facebook | kenti@fumc-cs.org

We will look at a couple of Bible passages that relate to the sermon for the coming week. This study will not only help you learn more about the Bible, but will prepare you to be better participants in the worship services. Come and get background on the sermon text!

Sunday School Classes

Growing in our faith together is an important part of First United Methodist Church. One way we grow together is by gathering in groups to study, connect, and pray together. People of all ages gather before worship for Sunday School. Whether you are a member or not, you are invited to visit any of our on-going adult Sunday school classes. Our current classes gather at either 9:30am or 10:00am, which makes it easy for you to also attend one of our Worship Services at  8:00am, 9:00am or 11:00am.

In gathering together, we are transformed by God's grace through the study, praying, and fellowship of the class. We invite you to become part of one of our classes so that you may be transformed. Visitors are welcome in all classes.

CLASS OFFERINGS:

Kerygma
Sundays, 9:30am | Room 233S | Lisa Robinson | 719-331-5999

This is a large class, both singles and couples, of all ages with varied backgrounds and diverse perspectives. Pairs and Spares

This class is a “practical application of Christianity by a group of people who know how difficult that is and who know they are less than perfect” (mission statement). One of the class’s rules for the road together is: “assume good will” of each other. We welcome visitors to our group!

Bereans

This class of many ages enjoys a time of refreshment, friendly fellowship and study. They look forward to welcoming visitors. Bruce Phillips, who leads the Early Riser Chapel Worship Service, is teaching about the life of Jesus, the culture at that time and his relationships with the disciples based on stories from the Bible. They also enjoy frequent social events, and support various mission projects and student scholarships.

Todd Spencer is leading this new opportunity to dig deeper spiritually and grow in friendships with others. The class is now studying Courage, by Tom Berlin (our Lacour Preaching Series leader, 2022). Here's some more info on this study: Courage: Jesus and the Call to Brave Faith.  Participants in the class can easily worship during the 9:00am or 11:00am Worship Services. Help us grow a new class and help spread the word!
