Join us for a contemplative morning in the mountains, celebrating the life of Saint Francis (October 4th is the Feast Day of Saint Francis). Saint Francis was especially welcoming of the gifts that non-human creatures of Earth bring to us on our spiritual walk. What better place than the Ranch for us to spend time together on this special day? We will gather in the Lodge wearing our face masks, with a fire in the fireplace and as many windows open as possible for improved circulation. If weather permits, we will also have some time for lingering outdoors. We will start with a time of contemplative worship, move into a time of learning and conclude with eating our sack lunches together. If you would like to linger a bit longer for some hiking, you are welcome to staying until 2:00 p.m. Please bring: your face mask, warm clothing, your own sack lunch and your donation towards our contemplative ministries.

LECTIO DIVINA (WHEN IN DOUBT) PODCAST
You are warmly invited to join Rev. Dr. Todd Spencer in meditating and praying with one of the weekly lectionary texts on his Lectio Divina (when in doubt) Podcast page (www.lectiodivinatodd.com). Each podcast begins with a brief time of centering, with a reading around a contemplative theme and a piece of quiet music. After that, the listener is guided through a hearing of the text 3 different times, with some silence in between. A concluding encouragement for further meditation on what was given during the prayer time wraps up the session. Usually, the podcast lasts about 20-25 minutes, including the silence. Most listeners use the podcast for personal time of meditation and prayer, but many also use it as a way to begin their time with a small group or staff gatherings as well. Rev. Dr. Spencer has produced this podcast weekly for over a decade. Listeners have come from over 150 different countries across the globe If you are hungry for a special way to center your day or week with God’s prompting, come, slow down and meditate and pray with the Scripture!

Come and listen to the voice of divine love! You are invited to join this contemplative prayer group that meets in the FUMC Prayer Room on Thursday mornings from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. This time provides for a period of Centering Prayer (a silent form of Christian meditation), followed by Lectio Divina (meditative reading of Scripture). THE GIFT OF SPIRITUAL DIRECTION
Many people lead busy lives and find it difficult to notice God’s presence and action in daily living. Spiritual direction is about taking time to slow down, usually for an hour about once a month, with a trained spiritual director, to prayerfully explore a closer relationship with God. In spiritual direction, you are encouraged to reflect on experiences of your day-to-day living, not just on formal religious activities. As you do this over time, you may begin to notice God’s presence and grace unfolding in ways you had not noticed before. If you are interested in exploring what spiritual direction could provide for your own life, here are two suggestions: First, you can read more about it online at the Spiritual Directors International website: www.sdiworld.org. Second, if you would like to get a first-hand taste of spiritual direction, contact either Rev. Patty Walker at [email protected] or Rev. Dr. Todd Spencer at [email protected] Patty and Todd also have connections with many other potential spiritual directors in our area for your consideration.
