A  NOTE  FROM  MARJORIE

Sunday, September 12, 2021

Yesterday marked 20 years since 9/11.  That feels impossibly far away.  It is so strange to know all the kids in the children and youth program were born after, and have no memory of it.  My memories of that day are still crystal clear, and it has been a strange week leading up to the anniversary.  I’ve been thinking about what I’ve learned, what good came from all that hurt.  I don’t have many answers, but these are a few things I am thankful for.

I am thankful for my family and my friends.  I am so proud of my high school classmates who decided to go out and change the world, and who are doing so 20 years later.  I am thankful for a better understanding of the realities of much of the world.  And I am thankful for my faith, and for knowing that God’s love is absolute, without fault or failing.  God can, and has taken all my anger and fear and uncertainty, and loved me through it all.

Whatever your memories or emotions about this anniversary, my prayer for you is peace.  I want to remind you, just like I remind the kids, that it is okay to feel how you feel.  Your emotions are valid.  If you feel fine - okay!  If you feel sad - okay!  If you feel mad - okay!  If you feel numb - okay!  But please do reach out to someone if you need to.

Talk to your kids about this, in the way that works best for your family.  PBS has good resources, as does the 9/11 memorial (look for their lesson plans for students and teachers).

3rd & 4th GRADERS, be on the lookout for information about the BIBLE PRESENTATION - this is usually just for 3rd graders, but we are including 4th graders this year because of COVID restrictions last year.

Remember that MUSIC is at 10:00 am on SUNDAY MORNINGS in Kingdom City - come for SUNDAY SCHOOL at 9:00 am and stick around for music, or come early for music and stick around for Sunday school!  ADULTS - you can go to the Heartstrings Service and hear another sermon and hear incredible music, or you can sign-up to participate in a new adult Sunday school, or go and enjoy the downtown neighborhood we are part of!

Our FALL FESTIVAL will be OCTOBER 16 at JOHN WESLEY RANCH, up in Divide - SAVE the DATE now!

I pray you have a safe week ahead and that you and yours stay healthy.

Blessings,

Marjorie Gross, Children's Ministries Director

3rd & 4th GRADE BIBLES

Dear 3rd and 4th Grade Families,

It is a long-time tradition of our church to encourage children to read their Bibles by presenting all of our third graders with one of their very own! This year we are inviting our 4th graders as well.  If you are a 4th grader who did not get to participate in the Bible presentation last year, you are invited to join us this year!

Your child is invited to receive a Bible on Sunday, October 10, during the 9:00 am, 10:00 am or 11:00 am Worship Service.

Also, we will be creating a slideshow for the Services with the pictures and names of all the kids receiving their Bibles.  Please send a picture of your child to us, from the shoulders up; we would love to see pictures of the kids expressing their personality - costumes, uniforms, doing activities, etc - we just need to be able to clearly see their face!

There are 3 things that we need you to do to ensure that this special event has meaning and goes well. Please be aware, because of COVID restrictions, all events and plans are subject to change.

RSVP and PHOTO: Please email your RSVP and child’s photo to Ms. Marjorie at marjorieg@fumc-cs.org by Monday, September 27, to ensure we have a Bible ready for your child and can prepare accordingly for the retreat and Service. Please include the following information:

  1. your child’s name as you would like it printed in their Bible;
  2. what Service you will be attending;
  3. and, confirm that your child can participate in the retreat, October 8 - 9.

VERY IMPORTANT RETREAT: This year, we will have an overnight retreat at John Wesley Ranch!

We will meet in Kingdom City (FUMC 2nd floor) at 5:00 pm Friday, October 8, for dinner then leave for The Ranch in Divide, CO.

We will return to FUMC at 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 9.

(We need your help! If you can join us for the retreat as an adult volunteer, please let Marjorie know as soon as possible. Thank you!)

BIBLE PRESENTATION: Please make sure your child arrives 10 minutes early for either the 9:00 am, 10:00 am, or 11:00 am Worship Service on Sunday, October 10. We will gather in the Narthex (Nevada Ave. entrance).

We look forward to sharing this special day with you and your child and it is our prayer that children incorporate Bible reading into their lives on a daily basis.
