2021 marks the 150th year since the founding of First United Methodist Church! The pandemic has caused us to delay our celebration, but we will focus on this great milestone from October until next February.
Banquet Reservations and Donation
We will kick off the celebration with a special worship service on October 17, and a banquet at the Antler’s at 5:00 p.m. Three families in the church have graciously underwritten the cost of the banquet, Chuck and Jan Baggs, Brenda Hawley, and Ed and Mary Osborn. While the banquet has been paid for, we are asking folks, who are able, to make a $20 donation for each ticket. This money will fund many of the other activities and displays we will participate in throughout the celebration.
If you have any questions or issues getting your ticket, please call the front desk at 719-471-8522 and ask for Ciera or you can email Ciera HERE, she will guide you through the process.
Upcoming 150th Events
Look for displays of some of the precious artifacts and memories of our church displayed in the Hospitality Center. We are also creating a Timeline of events and persons to be displayed in the hallway that leads to the Sanctuary.
We will have leaders from the past, pastors, lay men and women, portrayed by folks from First Company, who will give us a “first hand” view of what it was like in the church during different eras. Look for those portrayals on Sunday mornings later in the year!
Our celebration will wrap up the week of February 20th with the inaugural Lacour Preaching Series. Our preacher will be Rev. Tom Berlin, one of our leading United Methodist pastors who currently serves the Floris United Methodist Church in Virginia.
Keep an eye on this page and in our other news resources to learn more about how we will celebrate the past 150 years and look forward to 150 more!
