Visiting a church for the first time can be a frightening experience. We know it can be scary walking through those school doors to visit the Prairie Campus. We assure you, though, that the hard part is making up your mind to visit. Once you are here you will find a huge welcome, new friends, and inspiring worship. To make your time easier, we wanted to provide you with some info to prepare for your first time.
Please join us. We can’t wait to meet you!
When & Where
Starting April 14th, our Sunday morning services are held at 10 am at the Banning Lewis Preparatory Academy, which is located in Banning Lewis Ranch at 9433 Vista Del Pico Blvd.
What should I expect when I visit the Prairie Campus for worship?
Feel free to grab a cup of coffee (and a donut hole!) before entering the worship area, which is located in the Banning Lewis Preparatory gym. If you come early enough, stop by our Welcome Table for a free gift and more information about the church. Or stop by after the service to connect.
Once you’ve found a seat, our music team will lead the congregation in a few songs, ranging from praise tunes to ancient hymns. Our style of worship is not easy to categorize except that we hope it’s inspiring to everyone. Some parts feel “contemporary”, but we also incorporate traditional forms of worship in the service. The sermon will either be a video from the downtown campus of FUMC or will be a live teaching at the Prairie Campus. You’ll have a chance to participate in communion near the end of the service if you’d like. Our communion table is open to all.
As a guest, you will never be singled out. Our services usually last an hour. Feel free to dress casually but if you show up in a suit or dress, we will still love you!
The first Sunday of the month is Potluck Sunday! If you happen to visit on a first Sunday of the month you have the option of staying after the service for a delicious meal and a great time of making new friends around a table. Don’t worry about bringing anything. We always have extra food and are saving a place for you.
What will my Kids do?
In Prairie KIDS Sunday School, your children will participate in an age-appropriate Bible learning time that is both fun and meaningful.
When you enter the school by the side entrance you will immediately find the kids check-in area. There you can check in your children, ages infant through 5th grade. After you have electronically signed in your child, they will receive a nametag with a number, and you will receive a corresponding tag which you will need to pick up your child.
If your children are infant through preschool you may directly escort them to their classroom following check-in. Children ages K-5th grade attend worship for the first part of the service for a time of singing and a children’s sermon, and then depart for Sunday School. Children are also always welcome to stay in the worship service with their parents if that is preferred. We welcome their joyful noise at any time!
What will my middle and high school kids experience?
Youth, ages 6th-12 grade, are invited to attend Sunday morning worship services with their families. In addition to these Sunday services, Prairie YOUTH (grades 6-12) are invited to meet weekly for youth group starting in the early fall. Youth will come together for an incredible night of inspiration, fun and fellowship.
