What does CWL stand for?

There are several meanings for CWL. The first is the meaning of the acronym C-W-L, which stands for:

Christians Who...

Love
Labor (serving God and others)
Learn
Live (fully, abundantly)
Laugh
Listen (to God and to others)
Lead
Etc.

A secondary meaning, though equally important, is derived from the pronunciation "quill" and the symbolism that this can hold for our experiences in the Christian walk. A quill is a tool, a writing instrument, with many parts that symbolizes how God works with us to write our unique stories—our lives. Additionally, the idea of a quill, or pen, seems fitting considering the various references in the Bible to writing…God engraves us on the palms of His hands (Isaiah 49:16), He writes His laws on our hearts (Jeremiah 31:33), and we ourselves are "letters" from Christ, "written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts." (II Corinthians 3:3).

What is CWL?

We are a group of mostly twenty- and thirty-year-olds attending First United Methodist Church in Colorado Springs who are meeting for fun, acts of service, contemplative worship and other activities as we grow together in our walks with Christ. CWL is a new "place" or "space" where Christians from all backgrounds are coming together and engaging in dialogue, focused on supporting one another, building friendships, and bringing the church outside its walls into the community, where we may serve and show God's love to others.

How can I get involved?

Our events are usually posted in FUMC’s bulletin, and in the church newsletter, "The Encounter," but check this website for the most up-to-date information. We usually meet the first and third Sundays of the month, but this varies. Want to get in touch with someone in the group? Email cwl@fumc-cs.org.
