Prayer Ministry
The Prayer Ministry is in growth mode! The newly rededicated Prayer Room in the south wing, Room 231, underwent two recent remodels in the Spring of 2008 and again in the Spring of 2010. The latest remodel includes items donated or created specifically for the Prayer Room including a mural on one wall that was painted by local artist and church member, Terrilynn Zaharias. A service of dedication was held and each aspect of this new space was blessed with a prayer that God would send his Holy Spirit to open communication, minister to souls and comfort hearts of all who enter this place of prayer. There is an intercessory group who regularly lifts up all the prayer requests left in the offering plates during Sunday services. All prayer requests are handled with extreme care and confidentiality as we pray for your situation.
How Does It Work? Prayer request cards are placed in all sanctuary pews. Your completed request may placed in the offering plate or left in the Sunday Business Office. Requests are compiled on Monday and given to Ministry Staff members.
Importance of Prayer Prayer releases the power of God in mysterious ways. All prayers are answered, although not always in the way we desire. Sometimes it is difficult to accept that "no" and "not yet" are answers. But God does hear, and always wants to know our requests and maintain communication with us.
How Should I Pray? Whatever way you feel comfortable. The Apostle Paul wrote, "And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints." (Eph 6:18) NIV
The key to having a strong prayer life is realizing that each person's relationship with God is unique and will be expressed in different ways. Don't try to compare yourself with other people. Just be yourself and use words that are comfortable for you. The Bible is full of honest, "non-religous" prayers expressing very real thoughts and very real human feelings.
When Jesus' followers asked him how to pray, he told them, "Here's what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so that you won't be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage...This is your Father you are dealing with, and He knows better than you what you need." (Mt 6:8) The Message
Prayer is simple, addresses specific needs, and reaches the deep issues of our hearts. Prayer invites the protection of God and, above all else, is an act of worship.
How Can I Get Started? Pray the Psalms, express your adoration for God, confess your sins, repent, give thanks, and "make your requests known to God." Read a book on prayer from our library or the Prayer Room.
Scriptures Remind Us...
- "Be careful for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God."
(Phil. 4:6) - "I urge then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone - for kings and all those in authority."
(I Tim. 2:1-2) - "Pray continually. In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."
(I Thess. 5:17-18) - "Confess your faults one to another and pray one for the other, that you may be healed."
(James 5:16)
