First United Methodist Church has a long-term vision of transformed lives through children's Sunday school.
We want our children to experience the love of Christ, to embrace Christ personally, and to develop into young adults with a mature and solid faith. To do this, we are providing a fun and purposeful learning environment that will help them remember their Sunday school experience all the days of their lives. Studies have shown that children retain better what they learn when they experience it in multiple ways.
First United Methodist Church is investing in a multi-dimensional learning environment for our kids. Your child will learn the principles of the Christian faith through art, music & movement, cooking, drama, video, puppets, stories, science, computers, and yes - even games!
Nursery- Birth through 24 months
Our nursery is a warm and nurturing environment where babies first experience the love of Christ. They may attend anytime on Sundays from 8:00 AM to noon.
Preschool Ages 2-5
We have two Sunday School classes for our 2-3 year olds and our 4-5 year olds that meet from 9:30-10:30 AM and 11:00 AM-Noon. Children learn Bible stories and participate in play and blessing time in a curriculum created by Rev. Dr. Leanne Hadley.
Kingdom City is located on the second floor. Children gather every Sunday morning from 9:30-10:30 AM for Sunday School and from 11:00 AM-12:00 Noon for Children's Worship. For Sunday School. children are divided into age groups and each week discover a Bible topic through a different medium. The month's topic is presented in a creative, age-appropriate, hands-on way through a variety of activities. Rotation rooms include science & geography, storytelling & drama, cooking, games & music, arts & crafts, video, media & computers, carpentry and prayer.
In the 11:00 Children's Worship hour, we come together as a large group, led by the Children's Worship Team to participate in prayer, blessing, and age appropriate worship practices. Come and discover the power of Children's Worship.
Children's Message in the Sanctuary
Children are always welcome in adult worship in the Sancutary. They are given a special children's bulletin with colored pencils and activity sheet when they enter the Sanctuary. They are invited forward for a children's message during the service.
The Children's Ministry Team provides Vacation Bible School, Day Camp at John Wesley Ranch, and other special summer activities.
Children's Music Groups
On Wednesday evenings September through May, children ages 4 through 6th grade participate in vocal choirs and hand bell choir. These groups share their talents during worship services. Visit the Music and Arts pages to learn more.
